Is there a relationship between facial hair in women and smoking?

I have noticed that some women have a lot of very fine light coloured hair growing in their moustache and beard area, but it is not dark enough or thick enough to be classified as a beard moustache, but there is still quite a lot of hair. What is the cause of this? Does smoking make facial hair worse?

The link is probably not a direct one, but most women will at some point in their life have significant moustache growth.

The average American Caucasian woman aged 15-45 removes hair from her upper lip at least once a month. Most doctors wouldn't consider a woman shaving once a week to have abnormal growth of facial hair. And many shave every day.

Once women reach menopause growth of facial hair tends to increase rapidly.

Few doctors have no female patients shaving at least once a day.

i've never read about a direct scientific link between the two, but i do notice the same thing.

there is a link between heavier women and facial hair though, because being overweight causes women to have too much testosterone, which gives them facial hair.

No I do not think excess hair and smoking are associated in any way. Smoking is linked with cancer though and excess hair in women ARE linked to hormonal imbalance and increase of testosterone levels.
